Two of Chapel Hill’s legendary bands, Satellite Boyfriend and The Popes are collaborating to put together a big show Saturday night, February 4th. Phil Collins from SB is opening for The Popes, who’ll be playing their first show in 20 years. Eddie Huffman is making a documentary about the weekend, and above is a teaser clip for it.
I’ve written before about what it means to me to hear The Popes (whom I never got to see in their prime) play a tune like Charmless. It’s nearly unfathomable that an entire show is coming this weekend. I still can’t believe it. It’s unclear whether this is the start of a new era for the band, or some sort of victory lap… but either way, Local 506 in Chapel Hill is going to get rocked this Saturday night.
