It’s the kind of memorial rock stars dream of … famed Sunset Strip nightclub Whisky a Go Go — where The Doors got their start back in the 60s — will be honoring Ray Manzarek on its marquee for the rest of the week, TMZ has learned.

A rep for the famed rock club tells us, the marquee memorial will stay up tonight through Saturday — and every show in the meantime will be dedicated in Manzarek’s honor.

The rep says the club will also be briefly “going dark” tonight at 8pm in remembrance.

As we reported, Manzarek — one of the founding members of the iconic rock band — passed away today following a long battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74.

The Doors were playing as the house band at the Whisky — opening for acts like Van Morrison — when a record exec discovered them and gave the band their first big record deal.

CHINATOWN. Jerry Goldsmith’s legendary score is now available on both Amazon and iTunes. Am really surprised that this has been made available digitally. The CD has been out of print for years (maybe decades?) and a reissue ought to have been gigantic news in the music world.

For fans of Pittsburgh’s legendary band THEAFFORDABLEFLOORS, bassist Eric Riebling has a real treat on his website here. It’s 1,000 Days, which - had everything gone according to plan - would have been the major label debut of “THEFLOORS”… as in the line “We’re changing your name, can you wait in the foyer?” from the song Nothing Personal on All the Things I Meant to Be.

Some these songs ended up on ATTIMTB, some of these were re-arrangements or re-recordings of tunes from their first 2 LPs, and at least one - Once In A World - was a live favorite that never quite saw release in any other form.

Enjoy it, and revel in this lost piece of Floors history.

Recently I received a phenomenal gift - a print from Fab.com called SONG MAP. It’s got a slew of song references on it in a faux-London setting. I’m continually astonished at the tunes that are cited on it: Long Promised Road by The Beach Boys, for example, and an abundance of tunes by The Jam are included. Fortunately I found an off-the shelf frame that fits it just perfectly.

Stumbling around the internet today, I discovered that St. Etienne used it for an album cover illustration for their Words and Music by Saint Etienne release, and an art collective called Dorothy created the map. In their Shop they also offer prints along similar lines called Film Map as well as The Colour of Popular Music (click to see each print).

Their work is intriguing, and as Elvis once said, “It will fascinate you.”
