Neko Case is apparently quite the gardener. Her friend, Jacinta Bunnell, made her a case for her Heirloom seed packets that was repurposed from an old 8-track tape carrier. If you’d like to learn more, click here.

More here in a great story on The Stranger about her growing up in Tacoma & Seattle. Alas, there is no explanation given for the photo.
NICK & NEKO.
CAVE & CASE.
TRUE BLOOD.
Hear their cover of She’s Not There here at KCRW.
Found this out via Neko Case’s Twitter Machine. She’s Not There will be available on iTunes after the season premiere. Also, on HBO GO you can watch the 2nd episode a week early — immediately after the premiere.
NICK AND NEKO WANT TO DO REAL BAD THINGS WITH YOU
From Pitchfork we get the tale: Nick Cave and Neko Case (who’ve played shows together before, have had the chance to see that bill at the 9:30 before she could sell it out on her own) are teaming up on a cover of the Zombies classic She’s Not There for the upcoming season of HBO’s True Blood, which returns on June 26. More on this here at Pitchfork.
Some songs of theirs that might work well on that show:
Furnace Room Lullaby - Neko
Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! - Nick
Vengeance Is Sleeping - Neko
From Her To Eternity - Nick
Hex - Neko
Dead Man In My Bed - Nick
Things That Scare Me - Neko
Abbatoir Blues - Nick
I’m An Animal - Neko
Dead Man In My Bed - Nick
The Curse of Milhaven, and frankly most of the rest of the Murder Ballads album - Nick

Playmixt is all for a great playlist, but must admit to being taken aback at the unbridled snarkiness posted at music industry site Billboard today. This really seems more like a Pitchfork or TMZ sort of posting than something Billboard would do…
Am really impressed they got Neko Case’s Prison Girls.
Great photo of Ms. Neko Case from passerbyprints — just a reminder that Together, the latest from The New Pornographers is out this week. NPR/music has been streaming it too.

In this photo, Patterson Hood of Drive-by Truckers does his best Neko Case impression.
Spotted at the nine bullets blog, a fine resource for DBT info. Preorders for their new record, The Big To-Do, are ongoing at the band’s website, here. It’s coming out on March 16. Vinyl versions come with an exclusive bonus track and a CD (no artwork) and a digital download. Additionally, the deluxe version comes with a 52-page book packed with Wes Freed’s artwork and more.
The documentary about the band, The Secret to a Happy Ending, is premiering at the AFI Silver in Silver Spring, MD this weekend. Brad Morgan, Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley of the band are going to be there, along with director Barr Weissman. As of Thursday, 2/25 tickets are still available for the 8:30pm screening. Playmixt will be at the 5:30pm show, and will report back accordingly.
Neko’s original LP cover below:

The New Pornographers have a new album coming in May, entitled Together, according to the story at the Matador Records blog. Neko Case and Dan Bejar will both be part of this one too. There are apparently a large number of photos from the recording sessions at the band’s official site.
In terms of “Best of the Decade”-types of things, the song Letter From An Occupant from their 2000 debut Mass Romantic is a shoe-in for my Top 10 most played songs. Hear it here.
FAVE SONGS OF 2009:
NEKO CASE, “THIS TORNADO LOVES YOU.”
Am compiling a fave songs of 2009 playlist, and… this is right near the top. As gushy as I remain for Ms. Case, this song provokes a fairly unique response from me. There’s something about the end of the song - specifically the section where she sings the title over and over - that makes me want to spin and twirl around like a Stevie Nicks video with my arms up in the air. That’s not a common reaction to a song for your host, a male human with over 3 decades on this planet.
This is her performance of said song from Letterman.
Can’t say I’ve ever bought a Peter Wolf album, but the list of collaborators on this record sounds interesting and I’d be pretty positive in asserting right now that there’s not likely to be a tune as annoying as his early solo hit, “Lights Out.”
With her animal preoccupations, it makes perfect sense for Neko to be collaborating with a Wolf. Click the headline above to go to the link to the story at Billboard.
