Upon first listen, Bob Mould’s new LP, SILVER AGE, is the album that fans of his trio SUGAR have been waiting for since File Under: Easy Listening. Mould himself has proclaimed it a companion piece to that band’s legendary COPPER BLUE, and it’s easy to see why. 10 power pop slices of guitar-laden rock that I can already tell are going to sound great blasting out of the car stereo. Initial reaction: highly favorable. This album rocks and is a return to the power pop/punk form of that early ’90s band.
If you loved SUGAR, get SILVER AGE when it’s released on Tuesday, September 4. Bob Mould is on tour, playing COPPER BLUE and SILVER AGE on various dates. Jason Narducy (Verbow) and Jon Wurster (Superchunk) round out his power trio this tour. They will be on The Late Show with David Letterman on the night of the LP’s release, Tuesday 9/4.
